At Polyco Healthline, we understand the need to reduce our waste as much as possible to support our sustainability goals, as recently outlined in our #phAMBITION project. We have set ourselves targets to reach by 2030 to address the key sustainability impacts and opportunities throughout our value chain.

#phAMBITION is Polyco Healthline's new sustainability programme. It aims to build upon our sustainability successes so far and set new targets and goals whilst unlocking the power of change. Our programme is aimed at addressing the social and environmental challenges of the next decade with commitments to improve the lives and wellbeing of our people with the smallest environmental footprint.

We have been identifying the areas where we need to make the most changes to reduce our CO2 footprint. Our pursuit of Zero Waste, Say 'No' to plastics and Energy efficiency stems from this. Our strategy is focused on addressing key sustainability impacts and opportunities throughout our value chain. We are committed to building for a more sustainable future, together with both internal and external stakeholders. You can read more about #phAMBITION here

At Polyco Healthline, we are working to reduce the impact of our disposable products and packaging in a number of ways. To mark Zero Waste Week, in this blog we are focusing on how we are reducing waste with SafeDon™.

SafeDon® is the world’s first glove dispensing system that presents gloves cuff-first and we are looking at ways to reduce waste as much as possible with this product.

In every way it is a healthier, faster, smaller, greener glove than its 40-year-old counterpart. Here’s why:

Manufacturing:

SafeDon® gloves are manufactured using 100% robotic automation. From forming to packing, at no point are SafeDon® gloves touched by human hand. They are the cleanest gloves out of the factory gate.

Shipping and storage:

SafeDon® enables palletisation at source for the first time. Downstream warehouses and stock rooms can hold up to 50% more SafeDon® gloves in the same space. For example, 3.5 million SafeDon® gloves can fit in one shipping container, compared to 2.2 million traditional gloves. This reduces the carbon footprint of each glove.

®Dispensing:

It is impossible to take more than one SafeDon® glove from the box at a time. Interleaved when packed and presented cuff-first, there is no chance of glove spill. This means each pack of gloves lasts around 10% longer and creates no accidental waste. Wall-mounted SafeDon® holders also means you never have to touch the dispenser, reducing cross-contamination. The 'cuff- first' glove dispensing system has demonstrated a reduction in glove wastage by 10% and reduces packaging by 30%. This packaging reduction, made possible by robotic packing machines, packs more tightly and with more precision than by humans allowing Polyco Healthline to ship more environmentally efficiently.

Donning:

By always pulling a glove out by the cuff, there is no accidental touch to any critical surface while putting it on. Independent hospital studies confirm that SafeDon®effectively reduces cross-contamination by 96%.

Productivity: With no accidental spills and with uniform glove presentation, SafeDon® allows you to put your gloves on quickly so you can get on with your task.

SafeDon® continues to be the cleanest, greenest, most cost-effective single-use glove dispensing system in the world.

Where gloves need to be single use for infection control purposes, Polyco Healthline offers a world-first solution to reduce glove waste and excess packaging with our SafeDon® range.
